I was inspired to write about tattoos. But this time, I am looking at them from a sociological perspective.
I was sitting thinking "I wonder what I got for christmas. I probably am getting a bunch of stuff for university, even though I specified more than once I don't want it to be bought for me. My mom asked me what I wanted, and I said a Trip to NYC or an iPad. When she said that was too expensive, I simply asked for permission for a tattoo, not even to pay for the tattoo, just permission, and she said no. I think that is kind of redundant."
Why do people hate tattoos so much?
Some people think they are unattractive. But then again, many people find many other people unattractive, for natural reasons. So this really isn't an excuse. Just because it is added on... it's like how someone dislikes someone's outfit, but won't say it to their face. I don't know. It's not your body, so why do you care?
I think another reason could be because some people believe that our bodies are sacred and therefore should not be "inked". Some religious followers believe that since god didn't place tattoos on our body, it is unnatural to have them. Again, if that is unnatural, then how come we have the ability to get "inked"? Also, putting on clothes is also unnatural. So...
Just expanding on how people think they are unattractive, I don't understand why people believe they are unprofessional. There is negative stigma around people with tattoos, probably from older films or stereotypes of "gangs" or in general, bad people. But these stigma's are what are ruining society. It's the same outlook that homophobic people have outwardly, that being "gay" is bad, but they don't have a reason for it being "Bad". It just seems unnatural, and they can't imagine themselves being gay. Same with tattoos! It just seems unnatural and they can't imagine themselves getting tattooed. I feel like gay communities are going to be after me for that comment. Whatever.
But back to my point. There is no reason that a tattoo should be deemed unprofessional. So many people have them, they have been around for centuries, it's not some huge shock.
Although, in general I think dressing a certain way shouldn't be encouraged for different job positions. Like, why do you have to wear a suit to do business? You can wear a freaking nightgown for all I care. I understand why people like road workers wear protective gear and bright orange, but otherwise, there is no reason that a person needs to wear a suit and tie for a business transaction, or to a meeting.
I guess my real point and connection is, that I want a lot of tattoos, and I want to be able to tattoo what I want, where I want, without having my body be deemed "unprofessional".
It is my body, therefore I do what I want.
If you want to hate my tattoo, go ahead and hate it, but don't hire some other person over another who has tattoos, unless of course they are more "well-qualified" or "educated", then by all means. But the stigma of a person having tattoos is untrue.
They are a way of self-expression. Okay? Okay.
In other news, I can't wait to get my first tattoo! It will likely be in exactly 10 months and 3 days? Somewhere around there, I will finally be 18!
I'll come back to visit my mom, and I'll have like 3 tattoos. But that doesn't make me a different person.
I feel like this can also connect to... I forget the name of the debate, if it even has one. But it connects to the whole idea of women who wear less clothes, are asking to be raped, when they aren't. Having tattoos isn't asking for trouble or being dirt.
I don't know.
All I know is I am excited for my first tattoo! I think instead of getting the bird on my hand as I first wished to get, I am going to get the quote on my hip. It's a less painful part of my body, and for my first tattoo, I think that would be nice.
In other, other news, I am thinking of piercing one of my ears again. Here is what I am thinking:
Left Ear:
Okay, the top one is sort of in a weird blank spot on my ear, that I thought a stud would look cute.
The one off to the side is a somewhat normal place for a helix
The bottom one is a conch piercing.
Right ear:
So I was thinking of getting an industrial bar... but honestly, I don't think I want it as much anymore. But it's still an option.
The Blue dot is the same helix that I was thinking for my left
And same with the other orange dot at the top, the same place as my left
I don't know. I want one more piercing in each ear. Right now I'm thinking of getting the random stud on the flat part on my right ear, and then getting the helix and conch on my left.
I don't know. Whatever. Bye.
